Hanging With the Cool Kids: Chris Kirby and Friends

Ok…2013…

Hey folks!

Here is a new show for ya…Denis Parker and guests…

For the first time in many years, renowned bluesman Denis Parker will perform a full evening of acoustic blues live at the LSPU Hall. The show will feature a selection of Parker originals and show favorites spanning his 40 year career as Newfoundland’s premiere blues artist. In addition, he will be supported by a revolving cast of guest musicians including Caroline Clarke (mandolin), Alf Dyck (harmonica), John Clarke (dobro) and the newest addition to the local blues scene, 13 year old Nick (Lefty) Earle (guitar, slide guitar). It promises to be a great jam session and celebration of local blues talent.

The show will take place on Saturday, March 23rd, at 8 pm at the LSPU Hall, 3 Victoria Street, St. John’s, NL Canada. For ticket information call the Hall at 753-4531 or book online at www.rca.ca

And now…Fall….

Well..not really! The summer won’t quit will it?

Thanks to all who came out to see Rick Fines last month! What a great guitarist and musician and all around great fellow to hang with. We had a grand jam back at the house to close out the weekend and I assure you, he will be back!

On that note, I think we can all agree that Denis KILLED it for his opening set! This is the kind of thing I get every time we gig together and it is just a ball to rock out with this man. Which reminds me…we happen to be at the Fat Cat Blues Bar (on George Street) this Friday, October 19th, 10:30 start, $10 cover! Acoustic blues with guitars and dobro and it just might be my birthday at midnight…love to see ya…

I am looking around for the next stellar show to put off and have some conversations going with some outstanding folks! You know it will be a barn burner when it happens! In the meantime however, if you take a glance at the twitter feed you will see that I have been hanging with some pretty interesting young musicians that seem to create a stir when they perform…hmmm…

Blues news!

Man, we had a good night last night at the Ship! An excellent crowd and Denis was in top form for sure…I may have even raised my game a notch or two as well…looking forward to the Fat Cat on October 19th!

Two weeks until Rick Fines hits the LSPU Hall with his parlor guitar and a truckload of blues, swing, songs and humor. Man, this guy is the real deal and someone you really gotta see while he is here.  The video below is with a full band doing a tune about reality comin’ knockin’ on ya….

September News!

Alright…lets git on it….

First, this new band City on the Coast is launching their EP at Freds this Saturday and I want you to check them out. Sure you will be thirty years older than everyone else and it will be packed but pick up a disc on Sunday at least…

Second, the Rick Fines show for the 27th of this month is starting to get some traction…good seats go first so why wait? Still taking names for the guitar workshop for the 29th and you wont find a better deal than this one. Your guitar will seriously love ya for taking this one.

Third, myself and Denis are picking up gigs for the fall and here is the quick lowdown…September 12 and November 1 back at the Ship! Good stuff.

Rock on and don’t be sittin’ at home doing nothing…

Denis Parker added to Rick Fines show!

Just to add one more excellent blues man to an already excellent show, Denis Parker will be opening for  Rick Fines at the LSPU Hall! Denis is playing better than ever these days and seriously blows me away every gig we do…he must be practicing or something….it’s going to be great to hear him in the Hall!

Again,  this guitar workshop will be one of the best ever! Yes, Jon Gomm is tough to beat but full on finger style tapping and full drum kit percussion may not be for everyone…this will be much more mainstream and suited to standard guitar picking!

Tickets just went on sale  and you can Call the Hall at 753-4531 or visit www.rca.nf.ca to get yours!

Man, what a great summer, just finished the last two gigs of August! After running  the Folk Fest, 2 sold out Jon Gomm shows plus workshop, a late night at the Ship (during which I had to split between sets and get some hammered dude off my doorstep) and a noon gig on the Harbor front… I may have to do nothing for a day or two…

That said, the next gig is myself and Denis Parker hosting Folk Club at the Ship Pub on September 12! 9 pm start, 5 bucks, all blues!
